If you prioritize your health, you will prioritize healthy habits
I’ve been traveling quite a bit, but one of the things I don’t want to lose is my healthy habits or lifestyle.
I used to travel less because I didn’t know how to keep up my habits while on the road since I would have less access to specific gym equipment and food, but I’ve learned you can maintain any habit if you’re determined enough.
10 Ways To Stay Healthy On Roadtrips
1. Pack prepared meals for the road.
Sometimes I cook meals before leaving, so I can void having to stop anywhere for food.
If I’m not eating out, I am more in control of what is going on in my body. The more control you have, the better your health can be.
2. Bring healthy snacks for the road.
My favorite go-to snacks are pistachios, protein shakes, boiled eggs, and protein bars. These always come in handy when I’m traveling. You can even bring cold foods that last outside of a fridge for several hours at a time.
3. Avoid stopping at fast food restaurants on the way to your destination.
If you pack food, you don’t need to stop for fast food.
Not only does this save money, but it also helps you keep your energy levels high and prevents you from eating less healthy food than your body prefers.
4. Get in your veggies, which help curbs cravings on your travels.
Many people skip their veggies when they travel, leading to constipation, less energy, and lower health quality.
I’ve started to try to eat more vegetables when I travel versus when I’m at home. It prevents you from getting sick, helps your body manage stress more effectively, and keeps you energized.
5. Stay hydrated.
Not only does this keep you full, but it also helps curb cravings.
6. Get in your workouts.
Whether you are staying at a hotel, Airbnb, apartment, hostel, homestay, trailer, car, or outside, there is no excuse not to work out and be physically active.
7. If you are eating out, choose well.
Choose more nutrient-dense meals with raw greens, non-greasy or fried protein sources, and healthy fats. A person can eat out and still maintain a healthy diet. It’s all about choices.
8. Stretch and meditate.
Keep your body’s stress levels lower with each change in environment by stretching and practicing meditation – even if it’s only for a few minutes.
When you’re out of your usual environment, this adds stress to the body. A way to decrease it is to meditate, stretch, and relax. Find time to pause on your travel adventures.
9. Walk.
The other day, I ordered some food to go. Instead of sitting down and waiting for it, I walked around the city to get in some exercise, clear my head, and get some endorphins running through my veins.
10. Keep your health top of mind.
If you prioritize your health during your travels, you will consistently make healthy choices throughout your road trip.
