And the same applies to other cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures
However, women still lead in obtaining cosmetic procedures along with plastic surgery more so than men, and part of the reason is that beauty standards for women are much more extreme than they’re set for men. And when you’re a female, you are subjected to harsher judgments and unrealistic standards of how your body should appear.
Botox, plastic surgery, and makeup are all predominantly utilized by women.
Who fuels the makeup industry?
Women.
And what is fueling women to utilize makeup?
For many, insecurity or uncomfortableness with wearing their natural faces. You shouldn’t need to wear makeup to feel empowered or better about yourself.
Who fuels the plastic surgery industry?
Women.
And what is fueling women to obtain plastic surgery?
The reasoning behind this is a bit more complex, but I argue that we (women) impose beauty standards on ourselves by imitating the appearances of those in the spotlight (media).
We don’t have to make ourselves look like other people. We are all created unique, so beauty can remain diverse and appreciated on all spectrums.
Yet, if you look around, the procedures women are getting are relatively similar. A new predominant look has emerged.
Too many women assimilate to beauty standards without question.
If you think about it…none of us have to wear makeup, get Botox injections, or obtain electric plastic surgery.
Yet many women do.
External perfection is being pursued at astronomical rates. and I’m wondering, do we ever take a moment to question what exactly we are doing and perpetuating?
The Younger Folks Are Now Getting Botox In Groves
More and more women receive botox injections in their teenage years to early 20s.
The same applies to plastic surgery. Younger women are obtaining these elective procedures earlier to “enhance” or “alter” their appearance, which used to be unheard of.
Young women are being prescribed preventative medical advice to get Botox injections with the promise that Botox will eliminate or decrease wrinkles in the long run.
In reality, this is not the case.
Botox is a tool to hide wrinkles for a set amount of time until you need it again.
You are setting yourself up for a lifelong reliance on botox injections because these only last for about 3–6 months until you need to inject again.
I’m not for or against makeup, botox, plastic surgery, or other cosmetic procedures. I’m for conscious utilization of these tools. Are we using it to assimilate to beauty standards or for personal taste?
A man said, “I didn’t ask my wife to get plastic” surgery. I liked her as is.”
It begs the question…are women altering their appearances for their male counterparts? Do men expect women to do this?
Maybe this woman obtained surgery for herself. But if we weren’t bombarded with images of women getting plastic surgery and seeing women praised for obtaining it, would the desire be as strong?
It’s a question worth considering.
Why Do Many Women Feel Ugly Without Makeup?
And why I gave up makeup for a decade
