You Have NO Excuse Not To Succeed In Life
There is a level of complexity to everyone’s life situation – some more than others, of course.
Some people have diverse abilities (e.g., blind, paraplegic, amputee, etc.), some have mental situations, some have traumatic backgrounds, some are poor, some are homeless, and some are classified as people of color.
But none of these things is a valid excuse for whether or not you can succeed in life.
I’ve seen people in every category (listed above) come out on top and rise above their “debilitating” circumstances.
We are the creators of our circumstances and control how successful we are in life.
I’m a black female.
I didn’t come from strong economic circumstances.
My parents both came from traumatic circumstances.
One parent was homeless at one point; both grew up in extremely abusive environments. Other family members were also homeless, and everyone still found a way to succeed.
How did they do it? Education and desire.
We are all exposed to information at some point or an example of a better lifestyle. Some people can see these examples or be exposed to this information which instills a genuine desire to better their lives. Others only dream of bettering their lives.
If you don’t have a strong enough desire to better your circumstances, you won’t.
Education Is Key
The more exposed we are to new information and people of better circumstances, the more power we have to shift our situations.
I’ll give you a personal example.
As a kid, my father let me tag along on some of his work trips. On these trips, we completed work for millionaires and billionaires. Exposing me to these environments broadened my mind, expanded my dreams, and exposed me to new information these wealthy people shared.
Many people have internet or cellular access; with these tools, we can all invest time in learning information to better our lives.
Some people use the internet to watch reality tv and pointless videos all day. Others use it to read books, watch documentaries, educate themselves, or communicate with like or higher-minded people.
The Color Of Your Skin Is Not The Problem. You Are.
Am I supposed to be broke, not be in the top earning bracket, and be angry because I’m a black female? Apparently, I am.
Society will frequently set limits on you based on your demographic.
I say f*ck demographics.
What do you want to accomplish? Make it happen.
What are your goals? Make them bigger.
Career Advice
Are you struggling to get hired?
It’s not because you’re a person of color, but it might be because you think it’s related to you being a person of color.
Eradicate your self-bias, and focus on highlighting your strengths in interviews. People can feel and read your energy and level of confidence.
Never allow your demographics to hinder your career – even if others try to make it so.
If you lack skills and education, educate yourself and obtain more skills and knowledge to eradicate this insecurity.
I’ve had both white and people of color try to jeopardize my career; I always find it humorous because they never succeed. I refuse to allow another person to impede my progress.
Furthermore, I refuse to allow my race and sex to limit my opportunities; if anything, I will create my own if they don’t already exist.
Think twice before you blame your background for your lack of progress. You’re just lying to yourself. Barriers can always be broken.
