Give to yourself before you give to others
One of them made a funny comment and said, “Well, you can’t pour from an empty cup.”
I started laughing, but how accurate was this statement?
Many of us give to family, friends, bosses, and others without ever giving to ourselves, and we wonder why we’re experiencing burnout and sometimes even irritation and bitterness.
If you’re not giving to yourself, you won’t be able to give to others effectively.
Not only did the fuel I gave myself help me, but I could also help close down the stations I was working on at an accelerated rate because I had so much energy. And I was frickin happy doing it.
What if I didn’t take care of myself by getting extra rest and fuel? I would’ve been less helpful to those who needed it most.
Key lesson: Before you give to someone or something else, be sure to give to yourself.
