As long as you run your fingers through your hair throughout the day, your life with sister locs will be essentially tangle-free.
2. Time
Ready to get back hours spent on manipulating your natural hair into the perfect hairstyle? Sister locs take no time at all. I don’t even wrap my hair every night anymore.
3. Money
I get my hair retightened every 6–12 weeks, costing me about $100.
As far as products go, I barely spend any money here.
The three primary products I utilize on my hair include:
Filtered water
Hemp oil
Jojoba oil
4. Length
Braids and twists were effective styles but also stressful on my hair.
Sister locs require minimal manipulation, which helps the hair grow stronger, healthier, thicker, and longer without much effort.
Braids and mini twists required me to redo the entire hair strand. On the other hand, sister locs require me only to retighten the roots.
When I’m not getting my hair retightened, it’s usually in a bun or double protective style (i.e., Bantu knots)
5. Diverse Styling
Since my locs are smaller, I can wear my hair in diverse hairstyles. The cool thing about sister locs is that they mimic loose hair.
6. Freedom
I don’t have to worry about it raining because my hair is in a permanent natural style, so I don’t need an umbrella to protect it – unless I want to prevent shrinkage.
I never have to worry about what my hair will look like when I take it out of a particular style because sister locs always look good unless you go too long between re-tightenings.
With braids and twists, I manipulated my hair more often because I had to redo the entire strand.
Now that I have sister locs, the root is the only part of my hair that’s being touched, which means I have an extremely low manipulation hairstyle; this also means I have more freedom because my hair requires minimal effort.
7. Healthy Hair
Since I don’t touch my hair as often, my hair thanks me sincerely for it by growing healthier and more robust.
Natural hair – particularly 4c hair – loves low manipulation and protective styling. The better you treat your hair, the healthier your hair.
8. Inspire Others
Many people shy away from locs because it’s semi-permanent, and you can’t manipulate your hair as easily.
However, if you get sister locs, your locs will be small enough to manipulate however you please.
I’ve had many people come up to me and reconsider getting sister locs because they were unaware that sister locs could look this way.
9. Fall In Love With Your Hair
It took me a couple of decades to finally fall in love with my hair. I didn’t hate my hair, but it was always too much frickin work.
Sister locs saved the day. I never stress about my hair anymore, which is one of the best feelings in the world.
10. Decrease Stress
I can’t name how often my hair didn’t turn out “right” because my overnight styling fell through the cracks. It happens; no, it’s not the end of the world, but it can be a pain in the ass.
It took me two weeks to complete the mini-twists process.
It took around 8–12 hours to install single braids.
These two styles were stressful because they took too much time and effort. I’m so over it!
