Looking Broke Isn’t Sexy, But It Builds Wealth
Don’t fall for the appearance trap
I don’t live the sexiest lifestyle compared to the standards of some, but I do live a pleasant lifestyle which I’m amply grateful for. I probably look broke to a lot of people. I’ve been wearing the same workout clothes for the past 1–2 decades, I wear things until they’re too tattered to dorn, and for some reason, I love hand-me-downs. Some might think I’m depriving myself, but the truth is I don’t really enjoy shopping unless it’s for dog treats. I have to really amp myself up to buy new clothes and shoes – something I’ve been meaning to do for the past few years. It’s a good problem to have, though, because though I’m not investing the most in my clothes, I’m still investing in real estate, stocks, and crypto, which is building my net worth around the clock.
Am I going to always live like this? No. Quality and convenience are important aspects of life and something I value. I’ve already started integrating things that give me the most essential gift back: time. Things such as house cleaning, ordering necessities online so I don’t have to drive to the store and get them, and utilizing an executive assistant to help me reach my goals faster are granting me more time. However, none of these luxuries can be seen by others. It’s all in the background, and I’m okay with that. We don’t have to show our resources off, nor do we have to max them out on our external appearance.
I’ve been living this way for most of my life, which is why I’ve been able to save so much money. Broke people have told me I should do this or that with my money, but instead of listening to them, I follow my own path and still have a healthier financial position than them to this day. Their lives might look better, but mine gives me more options in the long run. It also feels good to know if I really wanted to, I could buy some things.
