The price gouging for inmates is disconcerting
Why are correction centers overcharging for healthy foods in an environment where inmates’ health is already a detrimental issue?
A tuna pack in the outside world costs $1 or less. A correction center charges $3.50.
A chicken pack in the outside world costs $1 or less. A correction center charges $5.00.
What can we do about this? It’s not fair. It’s not right. It’s not equitable in any sense. Prisoners are still human beings, no matter what they have or haven’t done. They need not only healthy foods that are cost-friendly but proper healthcare, dental care, and mental health care.
