Motivation Is A Drug
Motivation is comforting.
Motivation is full of fire.
Motivation is supportive.
Motivation makes you feel safe.
Motivation makes you feel closer to accomplishing your goals.
And this is the problem.
Motivation is a fix.
Motivation is a drug.
Why?
You got to keep going back for another dose, so you can stay on track with your goals.
Motivation is the number one addiction in the goal space.
This is why people keep going to seminars, conferences, and rallies. When all they really need to do is execute — whether they feel like it or not.
Most people want, need, and are looking for their next hit of motivation, so they can continue to make progress on their goals.
Many people do not know how to run off zero motivation.
Defining The Pursuit of A Goal
The best way to define the pursuit of a goal is: deep pain.
That’s it.
I can’t recall a goal I’ve pursued that didn’t require some form of deep pain, deep sacrifice, and sometimes deep isolation.
Goals can be painful, discomforting, and demotivating. There are many times in the pursuit of a goal where you will want to quit. You will feel like your world is collapsing, you’re not making progress, you’re a complete failure, you’re a fraud, and you’re losing.
I would know, because I’ve felt all of these in the pursuit of goals I’ve achieved, and ones I haven’t.
How to Refuel Motivation: Obsession
The only way to refuel motivation internally without the reliance of others is through obsession.
If you become obsessed with accomplishing a goal and will not accept failure as an option, obsession will take you to the finish line.
When you are obsessed, you don’t take no for an answer.
It’s similar to creepy exes who won’t stop messaging you because they can’t let you go.
This is the exact mentality you must take to reach your goals.
Maybe you’ve dealt with a creepy ex before, maybe you haven’t. Or maybe you know someone who dealt with one, or watched a show or movie about a creepy ex.
Doesn’t matter because we all know one thing stalkers, creepy exes, and persistent exes have in common:
They don’t stop.
They’re relentless.
They don’t understand the word “no”.
Now imagine taking this same approach with your goals:
- What would happen if you didn’t stop working on your goals?
- What would happen if you adopted a relentless mentality about your goals?
- What would happen if you didn’t understand the word “no”?
- What would happen if you didn’t know that failure even existed?
Don’t rely on motivation. Rely on obsession and adopt the creepy ex mentality to reach your goals.
You don’t need another f*cking seminar. You need obsession. You need persistence. You need to not understand the word “no”. You need to not comprehend the concept of failure.
F*ck the rallies.
F*ck the speeches.
F*ck the conferences.
And just go all in.
Stop relying on your next dose of motivation and learn to become a nucleus of motivation that constantly feeds your drive internally.
Become inner directed.
Learn to ignore the fluctuation of your feelings.
Learn to drown out the noise, the doubt, and the negative thinking with an insane level of execution.
The Next 30 Days
Instead of investing in listening, watching, and attending motivation content online, in person, or on social media, focus on execution for the next 30 days.
For the next 30 days, ignore the fluctuations of your feelings and emotions and instead, focus on being consistent and doing what is required to reach your goals.
You’re often a lot closer than you think, the more consistent your level of execution is
Stay focused.
Cut off your relationship with motivation, and execute.
Remember that failure doesn’t have to be a concept you comprehend.
