Pay attention to the signs to get the help you need
However, before anyone arrives at the “pain that is too much to bear” part, there are several critical checkpoints one reaches.
The question is, how many checkpoints will it take for someone to reject going the suicidal route?
Common Themes
I’ve never experienced suicidal thoughts or feelings during my lifetime, but several people close to me throughout my life have almost crossed over.
There has been one common theme for all of these people:
Lack of support
Lack of positive outlets and strong anchors
Lack of medication (if needed)
Lack of self-love
Lack of self-worth
Lack of honest and open communication
Critical Points Are Warning Signs
Outside of these themes are critical points (essentially warning signs) that try to communicate to us that we need to get help.
Warning signs could include: lack of self-care, self-defeating thoughts, feelings of wanting to inflict self-harm, hating ourselves, not dealing with our pasts, not dealing with our regrets, not dealing with our failures, not forgiving ourselves and others, harboring bitterness (which always leads to anger), and [fill in the blank].
Many critical points reveal themselves as warning signs telling us to wake up before it’s too late.
Unfortunately, many people ignore the warning signs and miss the critical points that try to save them from hurting themselves.
Maybe you’ve had a critical point. Maybe you know someone who has experienced a critical point. Maybe you have shared with someone something you’ve noticed within their lives that signals a red flag (you’re serving as a critical point by doing this).
Whatever You Neglect Will Haunt You
As Jim Rohn says, whatever we neglect will eventually matter. If we neglect ourselves and our well-being (emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual), they will find a way to negatively affect us in ways we might’ve never imagined.
I’ve seen some of the brightest people become victims of suicide or attempted suicide. It could have been prevented had they not ignored the critical points that tried to rally their attention.
Suicide Hotline
This article might serve as a critical point for someone today. Please know that help is available, and you can speak with someone today via the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Their hours are 24/7, with languages in both English and Spanish. Learn more or call 800–273–8255. Your life matters, and you deserve to register critical points so that you can experience a full life on this earth.
Suicide is not weakness; it’s a pain that became too much to bear. Talk to someone today. Share the weight of your pain.
