Navigating relationships with a highly productive mindset
For me, this was rarely the case – unless I was depressed, going through something, or needed a break from working so much.
I quickly noticed in many of my relationships – whether platonic, romantic, or familial- that my lifestyle significantly contradicted theirs.
I can’t recall how often people have told me that I work too much, don’t spend enough time with them, or received threats of the end of a relationship.
Not until later did I finally accept that I’m a purpose-driven person, and only certain people will be able to fit into my lifestyle.
Once certain people left my life, certain things didn’t change about my work habits; however, I did learn that there were people out in the world who would be able to accommodate and fit into my work habits, and these were the jewels missing from my life.
There is a fine line between working too much and purpose-driven work.
Certain goals require us to invest significant time and focus, which doesn’t allow much room for activities such as television, frequent hangouts, or non-working vacations.
I have taken time to reflect on what others say, which is why I check in with those I care about more frequently than I used to, but I still disappear; this hasn’t changed.
How To Maintain Relationships When You’re Highly Productive
Step one is communication. I became better at communication when people made threats regarding my work life.
Though those people were not right for me, which is why they are no longer in my life, I did want to ensure I communicated clearly to the people that belonged in my life.
The people who belong in my life have been most accepting of my lifestyle, don’t threaten to end our relationship, or get too stressed out about my work.
They know that disappearing is normal for me and that I’m likely working away.
Purpose Is The Key
Over our lifetimes, we’ve all gotten a lot of rest, days sleeping in, vacations, and time for relaxation.
But how much time have we spent investing in our purpose?
Many spend more time relaxing, sleeping, and taking breaks because they’re burnt out from doing things that have no direct correlation to their purpose.
What about you?
How To Stay Productive Through All Times
Someone recently asked me how I stay highly productive through tragedies; my response is purpose.
Purpose will get you through the darkest and brightest moments.
Purpose will keep you productive, focused, and emotionally/mentally/physically/spiritually healthy.
