It depends on multiple factors
I get my locs retightened every six weeks.
But I could probably go for eight weeks.
The thing is, my hair tends to grow relatively fast; hence, it starts bulging at the roots.
Some people can go for 12 weeks without retightening their locs.
I’m interested in trying this.
But since my locs are so tiny, it usually takes four hours to retighten them.
If I wait an extra four weeks, that could add an extra two hours [or more] on top of my four-hour sessions, which would equate to the same amount of time spent getting my hair retightened each year [24 hours], but my hair looks fresher when done every six weeks. It also feels healthier.
How fast your hair grows will determine how often you get it done.
Some people prefer a less clean look.
I enjoy seeing my scalp. I did the no-scalp look for about ten years when I wore mini twists and redid them every 12 weeks.
Maybe I will revert.
Remember, though, the less you manipulate your hair, the more it can grow, repair, and maintain its health.
For me manipulating my hair at low levels equates about six weeks.
What about you? Talk about it in the comments section.
Here’s how I did it
