How to avoid downward spirals with your diet
Perfection Can Be The Enemy
A friend recently told me whenever they experienced a mistake on their goal journey, they would spiral into a downtrend and not make as much progress because they were so focused on perfection.
When you’re on track, consistently making progress on your goals, and not making excuses for lack of progress most of the time, there is no reason to allow “imperfections” to prevent you from making progress. Or better yet, downward spiraling.
Ever have those times where you eat one unhealthy meal, and then you continue eating unhealthy for the remainder of the day, the next day, and then it turns into a week? This is a downward spiral.
Notice, I ate the bag of Cheetos but immediately got my workout in.
The difference.
And guess what? I didn’t eat Cheetos the next day or eat shit the rest of the week because I have goals, discipline, and a vision for my body and health.
Cheetos aren’t going to mess up my body or health. However, I do want to prioritize eating clean most of the time.
A Restricted Diet Is Hard To Maintain, But Doable
One of the most challenging practices I implement in my daily life is eating freely two days a week and then getting back on track the other five days.
Every now and then, I allow myself more flexibility.
Sometimes, I even go for days or weeks, but here’s the thing:
I always get back on track.
Make A Decision & Stick To It
We always have a choice of whether we stay on a downward spiral or if we hop back on the wagon so that we can reach and maintain our goals.
If You Want To Lose Weight
If you are trying to lose weight, you can skip the splurging, but if you do splurge, know that it will require a higher level of discipline to get back on track.
Once you insert sugar and processed foods, the cravings usually come for you with a vengeance.
If you don’t mind making the process of losing weight or getting healthier a bit harder, then, by all means, allow yourself the opportunity to splurge. Just be sure you always get back on track so you can meet your goals.
All you have to do is this one thing
