I got tired of being addressed as “guys” when I was in groups, and I felt weird addressing diverse and complex groups of people as simply “guys”.
It’s a simple thing, but y’all or everyone seems to fit better. It’s not exclusive, and it doesn’t perpetuate gender norms.
Other Terms To Use In Non-Exclusive Groups:
Everyone
You All
Y’all
Group
People
How might you be perpetuating gender norms? Not everyone wants to be addressed as a “guy” nor does everyone consider themselves a “guy”.
Think twice before using the term “you guys” for diverse groups of people.
