Shifting your perspective can transform your life, energy, and successes via your habits
Instead of opting in for pessimism, the guy in the wheelchair chose to look on the bright side of his new circumstances. I’ve never thought of the gift of the wheelchair as this guy has. It makes you pause to realize how much value and freedom the wheelchair has added to millions of people’s lives across the globe. They don’t have to remain in one place; they can travel freely via a portable chair.
Where Do We Need To Shift Our Perspective?
Our habits.
We often need to shift our perspective on our habits; this is where we struggle, especially when implementing a new habit that will significantly benefit our lives.
The funny thing is that beneficial habits are often not activities we want to do because they take discipline. Discipline is pain. Watching tv, going to bed, and chilling is much easier than engaging in unenjoyable habits that cause us pain.
What habits and activities are you dreading that add value to your life or need to be done? Is it one of these:
Going to work.
Paying the bills.
Cooking dinner.
Cleaning the house.
Manicuring the yard.
Taking your dog on a walk.
Picking up the kids from school.
Reading before you start your day.
Hanging out with friends and family.
Working out, eating healthy, and drinking water.
Maintaining regular quality time with your partner.
Calling back a friend in need when you’re stressed yourself.
“Get To” Versus “Have To”
We might often not feel like doing all of these habits and activities, but the critical thing to remember is that we get to do these activities.
When you want to quit, give up, or choose a non-beneficial habit, remind yourself that you get to perform the unenjoyable habit. And try pairing your habits with other habits that you enjoy (e.g., watching tv). Clean the house while listening to your favorite music. Make a delicious healthy meal instead of a boring one. Watch your favorite show while cooking dinner. Set up a meeting with your favorite person at your job each week so you have something to look forward to.
As we shift our perspectives about all of our responsibilities, our lives will change. The more we can engage in positive habits, the more our lives will transform into how we want them to be. But we must first deal with our perspective, just like the guy who now gets to use a wheelchair.
