Where do you land on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?
Where Do You Sit On Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs?
I’ve never had someone ask me where I land on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, but low and behold, the person that did, I would expect nothing less from.
So, where do I sit on the diagram?
I did not know how to answer the question because self-actualization can be the equivalent of reaching your full potential, which is impossible.
We Have Limitless Potential That Never Runs Out
Remember when people thought the four-minute mile was impossible? Then, people broke not only that record but even shorter times. Records are constantly being broken because human potential is infinite.
If you ever worked out in the gym, you know that you could start only lifting 5 pounds but eventually get to 100 pounds and so on. There is no limit if you train hard enough.
I don’t believe we ever reach self-actualization if we’re dedicated to a life of self-mastery. If one believes they have reached self-actualization, that could only be a sign of ego.
Self Mastery Is A Life Long Journey
What is self-mastery? Well, it doesn’t mean that you have mastered yourself; it means that you are dedicated to the journey of mastering yourself, which one will never ultimately experience because the areas of growth in a person will only continually be exposed on the quest for more knowledge.
4 Avenues To Pursue Self-Mastery
How does one pursue the journey of self-mastery?
Through the constant exploration of knowledge.
If you dedicate yourself to pursuing knowledge, you will consistently evolve, becoming superhuman-like and tapping into your limitless potential.
1. Reading
I read a lot, and it will be a never-ending journey. Reading is my favorite way to learn. Warren Buffet spends many hours each week reading; I heard it was a hefty 40 hours a week. He believes if one wants to reach heights never ventured, one should dedicate their life to reading.
One book always leads to another book. If there is only one thing you would do to obtain more knowledge, that would be to read.
2. Podcasts
The cool thing about podcasts is you can listen to them on the go, in the shower, when you’re walking, driving, doing house chores, etc. Podcasts and audible books are easy to get in some extra knowledge at all times.
If you listened to one short podcast every day for the entire year, imagine how much growth you could experience.
3. People & Life
I’ve obtained some of the most critical knowledge from others – especially the life experiences of others.
Always observe and pay attention to how others live their lives – not in a creepy way. But watch which consequences result from their actions. You can learn how to do or not do life by watching others.
4. Conferences, Events, Webinars, Etc.
There are numerous opportunities for you to learn in group settings that are often free but don’t shy away from the ones that cost money.
Always be willing to invest in yourself financially.
