Plus, how to grow and care for type 4 hair
Now, of course, it takes more than this to grow your hair out, but this is a big part of the secret sauce, which has helped me plenty throughout the years.
Detangling
If your hair frequently gets tangled, you will have to detangle it.
Unfortunately, this process can be quite tedious, but it can be most tedious on your hair!
Detangle your hair improperly, and you will find significantly less once you complete the process.
How Mini Twists Affected My Detangle Process
Once I transitioned to mini twists, I stopped detangling my hair with a brush or comb and started finger detangling, which helped me conserve more hair.
Detangling is great for our hair, but it also causes a lot of unnecessary breakages.
If you’re interested in growing 4C hair, then here are some helpful articles that include knowledge I’ve applied to my personal hair journey:
Protective Styling
It’s critical to leverage protective styling to ensure your hair is protected from breakage. The more frequently you wear protective styles, the more time your hair has to grow.
The more protection, the more growth, and health
Leave Your Hair TF Alone
The best way to grow 4c hair is to leave it the f*ck alone. It seems unproductive and ironic, but it’s the move. The less you manipulate your hair, the more it grows. The less product you use, the more your hair and scalp can breathe.
The more you manipulate your hair, the higher your chances of breakage.

Let Go Of The Synthetic Hair For A Minute
Many women of color have experienced balding, thinning, and permanent damage to their hair because of their incessant use of synthetic hair and strenuous hairstyles.
If you notice and experience negative effects on your hair while wearing these styles, take a break and allow your hair to breathe.
My Horrid Experience With Single Braids
When I had singles braids (similar to micro braids) in my hair, I remember the synthetic hair was so irritating that my scalp started to bleed from all of the scratching.
Finally, I gave up single braids and started only wearing braids without synthetic hair. I never returned to that hairstyle, and my scalp has felt amazing since.
