How to deal with negative thinking spirals
I find myself in one of these negative thinking spirals now and then.
What saves me is self-awareness and this phrase I keep inked on my shower: If I had to find one good thing about this, what would it be?
Finding The Good Is Hard
Sometimes finding the good in a situation is f*cking HARD. But if you look deep enough, you’ll find it. And that one good thing will help you find your balance and re-center your thoughts. Sometimes, you need to keep going down the list of good things if you dug yourself into a bottomless pit of despair.
Negative Spirals Are Dream-Like States
When you’re caught in a negative spiral, you’re almost stuck in a state of mental paralysis. It’s almost similar to a dream-like state. You’re not even fully aware of what you’re thinking or doing, which is why you need an exit strategy.
Exit Strategy
Have a plan and exit strategy for when negative spirals come because they will come. None of us are immune to them. You need something that will slap you in the face with cold water and wake you up.
