How to balance work obligations and writing
Balancing writing and career is not hard. It simply takes discipline. Remember, there are 24 hours a day, which equates to 1,440 minutes. Many people forget this. A lot can get done in the time span of a day.
The cool thing about writing is that you can do it from anywhere. Your phone, laptop, tablet, paper, or recording.
Here’s the thing, though: if you always prioritize your other work, you’ll never get any writing done. I’ve often found myself extending my work hours to complete work for someone else – sacrificing my work-life balance and writing.
It’s easy to prioritize work over your personal life. You can become obsessed or feel obligated because your boss is nailing you with deadlines but not enough time to complete them. So what do you do? You work more, sacrificing your health, peace, and time for things you care about.
Slow your roll. It’s time to set boundaries.
Establish a cut-off time to shut down your work laptop, and don’t open it back until the next day comes. Work will always be there; in fact, there will always be unlimited amounts of work to complete.
Since you know this, start balancing your work life, writing, and other things you care about, so you can accomplish not only someone else’s goals but also your own.
