5 strategies o beat the sugar devil
But even if you’re not a “sugar” person, you’re probably getting it in everything else: foods, condiments and sauces, drinks, coffee, and snacks. Food and beverage companies know just how powerful sugar is, which is why they load almost everything up with it.
Sugar is both magical and dangerous. If you’re not careful, it will literally destroy your body if you overeat it over time by developing completely avoidable ailments (e.g., diabetes and obesity).
If you’re struggling with an addiction to sugar, there is hope. I myself love sugar, and I’ll probably never give it up. However, I do have to actively monitor how much of it I consume for both present and future health reasons.
5 Ways to Tackle A Sugar Craving
When you’re dealing with an intense sugar craving, here are some alternative actions you can take:
Drink more water (I know, boring). But water is a solution to almost everything. Sometimes we’re dehydrated, and that dehydration speaks to us in confusing ways.
Wait 15 minutes. Then wait another 15 minutes. Then another 15 minutes until it’s time to go to bed. Hopefully, you get to a point where you forget you had the craving in the first place.
Eat a healthy and tasty meal that will fill you up. Often, when we crave sugar, our bodies need nourishment. After you eat, your desire for sugar will often decrease.
Go get a workout in. Sugar feels good. It tastes good. It makes you feel happy. The endorphins you’ll release from physical activity will give you the same euphoric feelings, and your sugar cravings will decrease. It’s an all-around win!
Just say, “no.” Sometimes it truly is this simple. If you say “no,” more often, you will build upon your strength to say “no” in the future. You must get to a point where you decide to stay in control instead of allowing a substance to control you.
3 Ways To Beat Your Addiction To Sugar
Addiction is tricky – especially sugar. It mostly boils down to three things, though:
Willpower: Develop the power to say “no” to things and people that don’t belong. As you get more comfortable saying “no,” it will become easier to set clear boundaries in all areas of your life.
Self-discipline: Without sacrifice, you will never achieve any worthwhile goal. Sacrifice sucks on the front-end, but the benefits come rolling in over the long term.
Boundaries: If you have clear boundaries for your body and health, you will closely monitor what you put into your body.
