Cut the phrase out of my vocabulary
It begs us to question a lot of the phrases we utilize. But this is the whole point of evolving social awareness, which many people miss.
Even I missed this one.
The phrase always bothered me, but I never understood why until a black woman told me she stopped a white male executive from utilizing the phrase.
It all clicked.
My mind started racing.
“Strange Fruit.”
“Billie Holiday.”
“Lynching.”
“Oh shit.”
“Why are people using this in the workplace?!”
Whenever did “low-hanging fruit” become such a trendy term to use anyways?
Who comes up with these microaggressive terms that don’t consider all the strange fruit that hang from trees due to an ignorant thing such as hate?
