It’s not about sacrifice; it’s about this instead
But the primary way I intake sugar is not through desserts or unrefined sugars because those in large amounts is not the best path to follow.
People frequently find it surprising that I consume sugar at all because I’m constantly preaching about health, but they forget about the concept of balance.
Living a healthy life doesn’t mean you can’t consume sugar.
You don’t have to obliterate sugar from your diet to be healthy. There are also times when you can consume sugar in large amounts and still be healthy.
It’s all about balance.
People who struggle with food abuse or addiction find the middle ground (balance) a hard place to live in.
They don’t know how to consume things in moderation because they feel powerless.
During childhood, I dealt with plenty of issues surrounding sugar because I adopted many ways others – who had an unhealthy relationship with sugar – around me interacted with it. Hence, I had issues controlling my sugar consumption and being satisfied eating moderate amounts of sugar.
Once I dealt with these issues, I found freedom. Now my sugar cravings are less intense, and if I eat sugar, I’m not gorging it; I’m eating it because I want to, and I’m not going to get sick from consuming too much like I did in the past – as if I wouldn’t have anymore ever again.
Recently someone came over and was shocked to find something sugary in my pantry. I told them I love sugar, but it no longer controls me.
It’s not about avoiding what you love, it’s about staying in control of what you consume to ensure you experience your healthiest body.
There are times when I give up sugar completely. But most of the time, I consume it in moderate amounts. After realizing sugar didn’t control me and I developed a healthier relationship with it, I craved it less than before.
