Don’t fall for bells and whistles; your pockets won’t forgive you
Think about that next time you feel better about yourself compared to someone else who drives an older vehicle.
We’re all using cars for the same thing.
Is there anything different your car does outside of its primary purpose?
Yes, there are many more things a modern car can do than your average car, but newer and older cars still do the same thing.
Some will offer cameras.
Some will offer sunroofs.
Some will offer leather seats.
Some will offer beta autopilot.
Some will offer soundproof windows.
Some cars will have a better sound system.
Some will offer high-class security systems.
Some will offer stellar and high-class designs.
Some will offer heated steering wheels and seats.
Some will offer more assistance with your driving.
You get the gist.
But all cars still do the same thing.
Modern, new, fancy cars provide a better driving experience, but a better driving experience is not required to get from point A to B.
Is it?
Don’t Fall For The Bells And Whistles
Cars these days come with limitless options and upgrades, most of which are completely and frequently unnecessary.
When people go buy a new car because they actually need one, it is common for them to end up buying way more than they need and can afford.
The Cool-Looking Ski Rack
A friend wanted to spend an extra grand on a ski rack because it looked cool, but they lived nowhere near snow nor engaged in regular snow sports.
Does that make sense?
No.
This is just a simple case.
Many others are willing to invest more than an extra grand for an optional upgrade.
The Average Car Note In America
Anyone who finances a new or used car is looking at an estimated car note of >$500, which does not include car insurance, taxes, gas (for non-electric vehicles), or maintenance costs.
The average monthly car loan payment in the U.S. is $700 for new vehicles and $525 for used ones originated in the third quarter of 2022, according to credit reporting agency Experian.
It’s worth noting that recent reports from other industry analysts place the average monthly car payment even higher for new vehicles (source: nerdwallet).
Most people can’t afford a car.
Yet, people are not only buying cars but cars with too many upgrades and options because they look better.
F that.
Never compromise your pockets for appearances. In the long run, you will wish you had made a different choice.
85% Of Americans Have Car Payments
Car Payments: 1 Of The Worst Types Of Debt
A car payment is one of the worst types of debt you can have outside credit card debt.
It’s often unnecessary – especially considering people buy cars outside their budget.
Nobody wants to hear this, but it’s better to buy an old or used vehicle for ten of thousands of dollars cheaper that will get you safely from point a to b, so you don’t have to acquire any new debt.
