But more importantly, you’re so much more
In her recent article (see below), she wrote:
“I happen to love makeup. It makes me feel sexy and powerful. [..] It is one hundred percent true that I am an insecure and high-maintenance woman.”
I continuously explore the culture of beauty topic because I’m bothered by how dependent women are on makeup.
This is my issue; I own it. People should do whatever tf they want with their faces. But I wish women didn’t feel such a strong need to put on a full face of makeup.
Why do we feel sexy and powerful with makeup? Do we feel more powerful or about the same with makeup on? For many, they feel more powerful and sexy with it on. Why can’t be feel just as powerful and sexy without it on?
A friend who decided not to wear makeup to an outing felt regretful. She felt naked without it, and I told her she didn’t need it. She was absolute perfection. But she disagreed.
Though nothing is wrong with it, using makeup to mask your insecurities or dissatisfaction with yourself demonstrates an unhealthy relationship between makeup and your self-image.
Too often, women miss the rare beauty that they possess.
We are all beautiful in every shape, size, and tone. Yet, we continue to act ignorant of this.
Society creates and perpetuates beauty standards, but so do we by adhering to them.
News Flash: We don’t have to resemble the x standard of beauty. We can set our own trends and be entirely at peace.
“What Men Really Mean When They Say They Prefer ‘The Natural Look'”
Alexandria Roswick’s article’s title is good because the statement has come up quite often.
“[…] when men make comments like ‘Women who wear makeup are using it because they’re ugly.’ or ‘I like natural women, like the hot celebrities I see on TV and in porn.'”
Some women do use makeup because they feel ugly, but that doesn’t mean they should be valued less.
And many celebrities are unfortunately not natural. Even I struggled to notice plastic surgery on celebrities because it looks so natural. But plastic surgery is widespread in that industry. I even have friends who obtained plastic surgery; it’s hard to tell.
People that use porn as a reference to determine their real-life expectations of women are ignorant.
Ultimately, who cares what men prefer?
The real question is, what do you prefer for yourself?
Find someone who appreciates you for you and isn’t overly caught up in fading appearances.
None of that superficial stuff matters.
Women should care less about what men think, feel, and say about their bodies.
The Facts
Women still wear makeup more than men.
Women still obtain more plastic surgical procedures than me.
Women are still more overtly insecure about their bodies than males. Though males struggle with countless insecurities, they are still not as scrutinized as women are about their bodies, which perpetuates insecurities amongst women that are easily impressionable.
Makeup Is Not A Bad Thing
I like makeup. Though I haven’t worn it in years, it’s fun, colorful, and enhances the face and body. It can add a different vibe to your entire look. But that doesn’t mean that your natural look is not good enough.
You’re still pretty without makeup.
But you’re not just pretty; you’re a unique, particular, talented, intelligent, and complex individual who is more than their physical appearance.
What Men Really Mean When They Say They Prefer “The Natural Look” They have no idea what they’re revealing about themselves when they diss women who wear
