Still, always maintain multiple income sources
Nonetheless, entrepreneurial work is the most rewarding. But it doesn’t give us the right to downplay traditional employees who never go this route.
I don’t recommend that you maintain a traditional job and let that be your primary source of income. Always have multiple income sources, and never rely on an employer to fund your lifestyle.
I’m an entrepreneur and a traditional job holder. I’ve always either been both or 100% on the entrepreneur side, but there has never been a time in my life where I relied solely on traditional employment to fund my lifestyle. I always maintain multiple income sources to keep my financial agility high.
Traditional Jobs Provide These Things If You’re Lucky
It’s safe to say, most people who work traditional jobs are not happy, but then there are lucky few who actually enjoy what they do for a living and live their dreams each day. Is this you? If not, it’s time for you to switch jobs.
If you want to switch jobs, you can make a decision and execute it. All it takes is definite action. There are a couple of things that traditional employment provides if you choose the right company, which include:
1. Additional Layer Of Security
Traditional jobs do not provide financial security but can provide an additional layer of financial security as long as you maintain the job.
There is no such thing as job security, and this concept should be eradicated from our vocabulary. There is such thing as financial security, and that comes with having:
An emergency fund
Multiple passive income streams
2. Accessible Benefits
It’s easier to obtain benefits from a company because they do all the work for you. However, you don’t need to work a traditional job to get health benefits. Read my article, “Never Rely On An Employer For Health Insurance Again,” which discusses this in more detail.
3. Meaningful Work
If you’re lucky, you’ll work a job/career that provides meaning to the life of others. Thankfully, the work I do in my full-time job impacts others positively and adds value to their lives. If I’m adding value to the lives of others, then I’m adding value to my life as well. It’s the best way to live: generously and impacting the lives of others every day.
4. Flexibility
If you’re seriously lucky, you will get freedom and autonomy over your schedule and the type of work you do; this is the dream benefit in the traditional employment world, and if you can gain access to this, there is often little reason to leave whichever industry you find yourself in.
The one thing I consistently sought out in all of my traditional employment roles was autonomy and flexibility. When you have these things, it almost doesn’t feel like a traditional opportunity.
