Our most invaluable asset outside of our minds is: TIME
There is always a new show to watch, and if we keep looking, we will find something that catches our full attention. TV is similar to a drug; it medicates our minds, realities, stress, and pain. It feels good, but in exchange for temporary ecstasy and numbness, we have to give away our most valuable asset…
Time
TV subscriptions, social media, the phone, youtube, and the internet are all costly. Do you know why? Because your time is priceless, and all of these things take up substantial amounts of our time.
Depending on the plan you get, Hulu will cost you about $100 a month, which leads to $1,200 a year in spending, but that’s not as expensive as the hours you lose that could be invested in your dreams.
The Box
According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day (or 28 hours/week, or two months of nonstop TV-watching per year), which is only the average.
Most people turn on the television as soon as they’re done with work for the day, and then they fall asleep with it. They go to work, come home, turn on the box, eat, and go to sleep. They repeat this cycle for most of their life until they wake up one day, and they’re 60 years old, and their whole life has passed by them in an instant.
We are addicted to escaping our worlds because we don’t like the realities we live in. Do you know why we don’t like our realities? Because we refuse to put in any effort to create the type of life we most desire.
Why do you think reality tv (including YouTube and social media) is so popular?
People are desperate to escape their own lives. As soon as the tv was made, we could be entertained right from the comforts of our homes. Tv created the opportunity for us to get outside of our worlds and enter another world for a moment. But now, the shows, movies, and sports we can access on our tv are nonstop, creating an epidemic of tv addicts.
Are Their Dreams More Important Than Yours?
Many (not all) of the people you’re watching on tv and on social media are working on their dreams. The question is, what are you doing? Are you working on your dreams or supporting someone else’s dream?
Watching TV, unless you’re learning and researching, will often not get you from point A to Z. TV will usually keep you at point A.
Get moving. Don’t stay stuck. The box, the phone, the apps, and the subscriptions will reel you in and waste your time every day if you allow them to, but you always have a choice. You can stay stuck where you are, or you can make progress and move in a forward direction. The choice is always yours.
