Most people are
But I don’t.
A long time ago, I decided that I refused to become a slave to food, sugar, and any other desires related to my dietary appetite.
Even though most of society chooses to be a slave to their appetites, it doesn’t mean you have to.
A closer look at the U.S. numbers in adults: Roughly two out of three U.S. adults are overweight or obese 69%, and one out of three is obese, 36%. (Source: Harvard University).
Most people in America are overweight, unhealthy, and cutting it close with their numbers (e.g., high blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc.).
Essentially most people risk their lives because they don’t know how to say, “no” and implement boundaries with their diets.
You Can Choose Differently
Will you allow culture to define your health standards?
Though food is readily available and the options are more than enticing, you can consciously decide to live a healthy lifestyle.
It’s the decision I’ve chosen.
This doesn’t mean that I won’t partake in my favorites, but it does mean that I will limit my intake of them, so I can experience a higher degree of health.
If I don’t implement self-discipline into my diet, I will place myself at risk for health issues entirely within my realm of control.
Many people who experience health issues do because of how they treat their bodies. If you improve how you care for your body, your body will respond kindly.
Ways To Live A Healthier Life
Cook your own meals and consciously choose better ingredients to put in your food. I follow the less is more rule. The fewer ingredients something has in it, the better. When I cook, I mostly prepare things from scratch and eat nutrient-dense meals.
Stay active. I never stopped being physically active. Since I was young, I maintained an active lifestyle that has helped me maintain a fast metabolism and a muscular and slim physique. Take stairs, park farther away from entrances, engage in more activities that are fun and interesting to help increase your activity levels.
De-stress. Try to eliminate as much unnecessary stress from your life as possible. The more stress we have, the more it affects our weight, overall health, and ability to function at optimal levels. Furthermore, it expedi aging. Meditate, stretch, work out, and learn how to say “no” to things and people that add excessive stress to your life.
Do more happy things. Start doing more activities that are fun and light-hearted, and add joy to your life. Getting stuck in a routine and forgetting to have fun is simple. Don’t leave the fun activities for the weekend either. Add fun to your life wherever you can. I love to play with my dogs; it adds a lot of joy to my life.
Stay occupied. Many people become overweight and unhealthy because they lack purpose. When you are focused on positive outcomes, intentional living, and value yourself, you don’t allow yourself to become a slave to anything (e.g., food) or anyone.
