Black people – we can all do better in this area
I was chatting with a group of black girls about careers and money. One of them works in the financial industry. She mentioned how she is trying to network to get a better and high-paying job because she isn’t trying to work her whole life. Her current role is not up to her standards.
My first question to her was, “Do you invest?”
Her response was, “No.”
Naturally, I was shocked since she works in the financial industry and because she said she wants to build wealth now so she doesn’t have to work all her life.
But if you’re not investing, then you will not build wealth.
Investing is the surest way to build the following:
Wealth
Financial freedom
Financial Independence
And if you don’t know a damn thing about investing, you can start with a…
Book or Article.
I had no idea how powerful investing was when I started at 14. I just knew that, apparently, if you invest, your money multiplies. And I never regretted doing it.
It helped me purchase my first car in college without the help of my parents (outside of them encouraging me to get started with investing at a young age).
Furthermore, investing has set the stage for me to build wealth for myself and my family.
Black People Need To Do Better Economically
We are at the bottom of the totem pole regarding finances in America.
Money stays in our hands for the shortest amount of time because we like to spend our money and make unintentional and low-value purchases.
Ultimately, many of us struggle to delay short-term gratification. We have some of the lowest property ownership rates, and it’s no mystery that we are some of the least financially educated people – even though we have countless information at our disposal.
Getting an education and a college degree is great and a freedom we have not had the pleasure of publicly participating in, but it does not equate to financial education.
I know many educated black people who are broke and consistently make poor financial decisions.
I’m trying to get a close friend of mine who is 25 to start investing because this is PRIME TIME. My question is, “WTF are you waiting for; this is your sign.”
If you haven’t started investing, there is no better day than today. The sooner you start, the sooner you can start putting your money to work for you 24/7.
Don’t know how to invest? Pick up a book. You are not helpless. Cut the victim mentality, and help our group change the narrative.
