Focused effort produces astronomical results and experiences
My hypothesis: Medium wants to focus on the reader’s experience with the mobile app and the creator’s experience with the desktop app.
It makes sense because editing can be a pain in the a$$ on the app, but editing on the Desktop app is a breeze. Improving the mobile app experience for both creators and readers can create the dilemma of prolonged progress and optimization for the medium experience. By scrapping the feature, they can now focus their energy on one purpose for each experience (mobile and desktop). When you’re optimizing a product, focused efforts can reap astronomical results.
This is just a theory, though.
My biggest con: If you notice a misspelled word on the mobile app, you can’t do anything until you get on your computer or use the desktop experience on your phone. But this isn’t a deal-breaker.
