You Got Unlimited Resources At Your Disposal
Ever wonder how prolific writers seem to never run out of content? I guarantee you they utilize everyday life experiences or are dedicated learners or observers.
Writers are in a fortunate position; our lives and the lens which we experience them through is one of our primary content generators.
If you’re an avid reader, learner, and observer, you can use the content you are exposed to and regurgitate it to your readers.
The best way to learn a new idea or concept is by teaching it to someone else.
I challenge myself to actively listen and pay more attention when reading books silently because everything I’m learning is a game for new content.
Whenever I watch a show or movie or take a trip, I put on my observer lens.
Whenever I have the opportunity to observe a lesson someone learned that I have never experienced myself, I feel obliged to share it so that others can learn and hopefully not make the same mistake as them.
I’m not only enjoying the show, movie, or trip; I’m mentally taking notes and looking for lessons or thoughts I can share in my writing. You can never run out of content this way.
If your well has dried up, it’s time to take advantage of your everyday life.
Need New Content for Your Writing?
Some of my articles have been inspired by The Walking Dead show – I bet you would’ve never guessed.
As a writer, every experience in your life that you partake of is content.
*Every day offers a lesson. Every conversation offers a distinct perspective that you can utilize in your writing. Every interaction can be a learning experience.*
If you are a consistent writer, one thing you always need is FRESH CONTENT. Of course, you can repurpose previously published materials – this works, too. But there truly is unlimited content available to you if you heighten your self-awareness and eagerness for learning.
If you’re a writer and like watching movies and shows, use TV time as inspiration for content. Make a usually unproductive activity productive.
When You Watch TV, Be On Alert For Content
What lessons can I, or others, learn and apply to life?
How do the personality traits of the characters hinder or benefit their lives?
What emotions do I feel when I watch this movie/show, and why?
What choices are made, and what are the effects of these choices?
Does this movie/show add value to the world or perpetuate negative thinking and actions?
Do any of the characters make me angry, sad, frustrated, nostalgic, or happy?
Can I relate to anything or anyone?
The list goes on and on. When you watch TV with a slant towards learning something, you will usually gain at least one takeaway that you can write about.
