Learn how to remain sober during tough times
What does self-medication look like?
It could include any of the following:
Pharmaceuticals
Cigarettes
Alcohol
But it could also include:
Sugar
Food
TV
And anything else that numbs the mind or your thoughts.
You can try all you want to run from pain, discomfort, disappointment, and fear, but it will always be waiting for you whenever you take a break from self-medicating.
The rawness of life can be painful to experience and feel, but there is also beauty and strength found in it.
If you know you run to alcohol or sugar during a tough time, try something more productive instead, such as working out, therapy, reading, drinking herbal teas, getting in more physical exercise, meditating, and stretching.
Don’t give in to temptations, and try to avoid having self-medicating substances readily available.
Keep them out of sight and out of mind (one tip from Atomic Habits).
